Give with one hand, take with the other …

Hooray! Those identifying themselves as Asians in New Zealand has grown.

Boo! 4.5% of New Zealanders don’t want to live next door to immigrants and 3% don’t want to live next to someone of a different race.

On a side point – notice how Stuff labelled the above article as “One-in-four Australians don’t want gay neighbours” and yet read down further and a whopping 22.3% of New Zealanders don’t want gay neighbours either – 2% less bigoted than the Australians, wow, way to make yourself feel better.

  1. Why would you not want gay neighbours??? I would LOVE to see the questionnaire they used to come up with a statistic like that… And to do in-depth qualitative interviews with the people in that 23%.

  2. (my ‘why would you not want gay neighbours’ wasn’t meaning ‘gay neighbours are great!’ – it meant ‘who the fuck would give a fuck about their neighbours’ sexuality) (just in case you were thinking I was thinking ‘because, you know, gay people trim their hedges really well and grow lovely pink roses’ or something) (quite disturbing that I can think of many people who would say they don’t want gay neighbours and they’re all related to me – *sigh* )
