Daily Cereal: Bury the Cat – Ep 2.

June sits and stares at the door where Eddie was. She hears the front door slam. She draws her knees up to her chest and waits.

And waits.

She stretches her legs and falls back under the duvet. She curls into a ball and tries to cry. Nothing comes.

Feeling beyond numb, she climbs out of bed, picks up a t-shirt from the floor and pulls it on. She walks to the door, picks up the remnants of the phone and tosses it into the bin. She opens a drawer on the bedside table. She upturns it into the bin emptying the contents. She continues around the room, throwing in a photograph, a book, a bus ticket.

She looks in the bin and thinks. She puts it down in the corner.

She drags on a pair of pants and then takes them off again. She goes out of her room into the bathroom, strips down and takes a shower.

She closes her eyes, stands in the water and does nothing. She opens her eyes and looks at bottles, jars and other concoctions sitting near her. One by one she picks them up, squeezes the entire contents out of them and throws them out of the shower and onto the floor.

She climbs out of the shower and dries herself. Leaves the empty bottles on the floor of the bathroom and returns to her room. She searches through her wardrobe for something old. She finds long forgotten underwear a pair of jeans and a tee shirt that has seen better days. She pulls them on.

She assesses the room and then decides to leave it.

She goes into the kitchen, fills the jug and switches it on. She opens the cupboard and goes to grab a mug. She spies a small blue espresso cup behind it. She pulls it out and throws it violently to the floor, the rest of the mugs, one by one follow. June cries.
